Ragnar Lothbrok was captured by the Franks during his raid on Paris and brought before Emperor Charles. He was sentenced to be thrown into a snake pit, where he ultimately died. However, there is some historical debate about whether or not this is the true fate of the legendary Viking king, as some sources suggest he may have survived and returned to Scandinavia.
